As promised in my last post 10 Signs You’re Losing Bookings, I’ll be taking you behind the scenes by introducing you to some of the elite team members here at Villa Marketers and showing you how they can help your business!
But first, here are 6 reasons why you need expert sales writers on your team.
-
Help Your Travelers Experience Your Property By Painting Pictures
One of the simplest and most transparent reasons you need a professional sales writer on your team is because a professional with years of writing experience can articulate with their words what you only dream you could do for your property.
Ever heard the saying “it’s not what you say, its how you say it”?
There are no truer words when it comes to your vacation rental marketing.
An expert writer can paint a provocative picture in the mind of your potential guests and build desire deep in their hearts.
Desire is a strong emotion and difficult to resist when conjured up.
A sales writer will bring out what should really be said about your vacation property and trigger emotional responses.
- In response to an emotion, humans are compelled to take an action.
You enjoying this selling stuff yet?
Side note- I’ve got some powerful material about emotions coming your way real soon.
A sales writer will make bookings and your life much easier.
- An effective sales description for a product can shorten the entire sales process by 30%
-
Convert More Visitors Into Bookings Using Sales Strategies
The second reason is that you can use sales techniques within the descriptions and the property write up.
Did you know?
- Buyers go through about 57% of the purchasing process before ever talking to a salesperson.
For this reason, you need to make your content do the selling for you.
This type of sales writing takes a specific set of skills to get people to buy.
A typical travel writer is not equipped with the same skill set as a professional sales writer.
There’s a psychological buying process that takes place way before anyone buys anything.
There are several phases of the buying process. Just one of those phases is called overcoming possible objections, and you have to answer the questions they have in their head.
- 48% of marketers support 3 to 5 buying stages with dedicated content.
I will be sharing more of these buying phases so you can sell like a pro. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter so you don’t miss a one.
If you’re thinking of the sales process when writing, then your content will help travelers get the information they need to move to the next buying step.
If it doesn’t, someone else who answers all their questions and concerns will get the booking.
You can make 90% of the sale with the right written words on your website and within your vacation rental listings.
There are proven sales strategies that can be used when creating copy for your website that will cause more visitors to “convert” and send you an inquiry.

Content is king but it can treat you like a slave. Free yourself!
Content marketing for vacation rentals is highly effective for delivering bookings. It takes some effort but the pay off is more than worth it!
- 69% of content marketers feel a lack of time is their greatest challenge. (Source: CMI)
This is a huge reason why owners and managers don’t blog and create the content they need for the results they want. Do you agree?
Is time one of your biggest challenges?
The internet is all about new content and the demand is never satisfied.
This unsatisfied hunger for content is worse than someone on a no carb diet.
It’ll keep you chained down to your desk trying to dish out the next piece of great content that your readers will love.
There is something about writing, you can’t just “half-ass it”. It’s gotta be done right and to do so, it takes all of you.
This can leave you with writers block and feeling mentally fatigued, leading to a less productive you and less profitable vacation rental business.
Remember, if you’re too busy working in all the little things of your business, when will you have time to create more booking opportunities? Free yourself!

Your website content will get you found in Search engines like Google.
Your property descriptions are read by more than people! They are read by robots too.
They’re called all different names like spiders or Google bots. These robots scan and store your text in their databases.
Google then matches your content with interested travelers.
Google will share the most relevant content and deliver it to the one who is searching for it. Are you creating content travelers are searching for?
If your property description is written by an SEO writer, they will research the right keywords and put them in all the right places.
Your listings can be found on Google way more often! And this will no doubt mean more bookings.
- Long-tail keyword searches are up 68 %. The easiest way to rank on Google for long-tail keywords is through content
- SEO leads have higher booking conversion rates because they are often looking for your type of accommodations.
-
Great content builds trust
- 70% of consumers prefer getting to know a company via articles rather than ads.
- 61% of consumers say they feel better about a company that delivers custom content and are more likely to buy from that company
- 78% believe the organizations behind the content are interested in building good relationships. (Source: McMurray/TMG)
Creating useful content for travelers will help you to become an authority for your niche.
- 58% of consumers trust editorial content and lowers the trust hurdle.
Nuff said!
-
Create a content current and keep your website traffic rising!
If you’re serious about developing a healthy profitable vacation rental business then you will have to create a content current.
Your content has to flow downstream like a steady current.
Your blogging should be fluid- like the water that keeps the village alive. Your blog should give life to everyone who absorbs it.
If your content and blogs have no consistency, your tribe or readers die out.
They depend on you to provide information, and when you don’t, you disappoint them.
Don’t disappoint!
When you create a content flow and have a constant stream of content flowing out of your blog and other outlets, you benefit from consistent website traffic that gets better with each blog you create.
Vacation rental companies that blog have far better online marketing results and higher visibility with their websites.
Here are 4 reasons you need a blog content strategy:
- 55% more website visitors
- 97% more inbound links
- 434% more indexed pages
THE BIG STAT: Companies with active blogs receive 97% more leads!
Did you know?
- 62% of companies outsource their content

I have to agree Jay time is and always has been my biggest challenge. I get inspired to write a blog and say to myself I’m going to write a blog but it never ends up happening. I want to do it. I know it has value to my business but still I haven’t got to putting it down on paper.
It feels like I’m trying to do too many things and something always takes priority over writing. Now everything happening with HomeAway is making me regret dragging my feet.
Thanks for the kick in the ass Jay.
You’re welcome!
I wonder how many owners feel the same way about not having enough time and end up sort of in the same scenario you’re explaining. Thanks for sharing Gary.
Jay I have been really impressed with your recent content. I like that you’re telling it like it is and that you’re a bit of a rebel.
I’ve been following advice that almost forbids selling. After reading your blogs I can see that selling is important and its only logical that I incorporate some of these selling techniques your talking about in my listings and website. I’d love to see some examples of how to make my property more desirable as you mentioned.
Selling is neccesary if you want to get the most out of your marketing and who doesn’t want that, right.
Josh I will be sharing examples of how to use selling techniques in writing and in other areas of contact with potential guests. None of them will be theory they all will be tried and true techniques that I have personally used. So get ready! Glad you like the material we’rewe’re dishing out, nothing is more gratifying than to hear your peeps enjoy your work.
Kari is indeed a content whisperer and shes extremely helpful and friendly. I have received more inquiries based on her adjustments she made to my vacation rental descriptions. I would’ve never wrote anything like that.
Its selling for sure but you can barely tell until you’re finished reading it and then notice WOW I would book it if I read it. Jay you have a great team of experts!
Sherry thank you for testifying to these techniques and how they result in tangible results and for your kind words about the team. Owners have to employ or develop their own team if they want to develop their independence.
They are doing too much on their own. I’m not just saying this because we are a vacation rental marketing agency but because its true. A team makes it possible to produce better results in less time and with less work.
Teamwork makes the dreamwork!
OK I never do this on my blog but much like a proud dad I am so proud of this I have to share it. Read what one of our most recent customers said about some of the team you’re being introduced to.
“Jay, I want you to know how completely impressed I have been with the quality of the work and your team of experts. I have been singing the praises of your company to anyone that I can.
In fact last night, I had a bunch of friends over and I was taking them through all the work done for my site and showing off the content.
You have a great company here and I love all your advice and help! Keep up the great work… You have a big fan with me!!!”

I am not understanding the part about SEO and how does that help selling?
