Every January the gyms are packed with people getting in their physical exercise, but mental exercises are
just as (if not more) important than your physical condition and that’s what today’s post is all about.

Where The Mind Goes The Man Will Follow!

If you start with your mind first, your body and business will follow! If you change your thinking – you can change your future!

Today’s post is a continuation of our business development series. In my first post, I explained how you can make more money, with less work by improving the processes of your vacation rental business.

But where does someone start with improving their business processes? This is step 1!

It’s crucial that we take the time to go to a quiet place and meditate about our vacation rental businesses

This shouldn’t be a one-off event but rather something you do as often as possible and the new year is a perfect time to put this into practice.

Once you start, you’ll realize how important it is to meditate and be more self-aware! It may seem like common sense but it’s something we neglect to do as entrepreneurs. It’s arguably one of the best things we can do for ourselves.

In that quiet space, you will find answers and solutions to the problems of your VR business while at the same time improving the quality of your lifeIn that space is where the growth of your vacation rental business starts.

I practice this mindfulness technique regularly. I admit, that I sometimes have to force myself to stop what I’m doing and meditate because there are plenty of excuses to skip it on any given day. That’s why this reminder is super important!

I’m always amazed at what I think of during these times of reflection. I usually think to myself afterward, ‘why didn’t I think of that earlier?’

The reason is, we’re always busy doing the next thing, checking emails, working on the next project and handling what we think is most important for us that day and hour.

We often spend too much of our time working IN our business instead of ON it. If you’re curious what the difference is, I explain more about that in the link above.

Without taking the time to meditate and think about what is happening around us, we’ll be totally unaware of what’s happening in our business. We won’t be able to see the forest from the trees. We’ll continue to be busy without much progress.

Have you ever felt like that?

As Entrepreneurs, we need to have a 360-degree view of everything that is going on in our businesses.  We must be aware of the potential opportunities all around us but we have to give ourselves the time to play these scenarios out in our thoughts. And in that quiet place is where these ideas and visions will materialize in your mind.

While you’re meditating, an idea will often hit you and you may feel a new energy come over you. You might want to jump up and start working on your new idea immediately – resist that urge.

Save your motivation for after you’ve gone through your thought session because you’ll want to let your mind unravel as much of the idea(s) as possible – like a ball of yarn.

Be prepared and bring a pad and pen to write down those big ideas. I don’t suggest using your phone because it will create distractions.

Writing your ideas down allows you to move forward with your thought process, without the fear of forgetting them. I know because it’s happened to me more than a few times.

Meditation Is The Training of Mindfulness.

Meditation is about training our minds to be more focused, to see with clarity, to have spaciousness for creativity.

This type of meditation connects you with your company and as an entrepreneur, your business is a part of you. Meditation will help to give you almost an aerial view of your vacation rental business and yourself. The more you practice this technique, the more of the big picture you’ll see.

You don’t have to cross your legs and say Ohhmmm. You just have to allow yourself to think freely without distractions to meditate.

In addition to helping you think through your businesses steps and processes, I often meditate in the evening, it allows my brain to “download” the day.

Other days I do it in the morning to help me prioritize my day. I sometimes listen to the sounds of crashing waves on an app from my phone. It acts as white noise and helps to unlodge ideas, relaxes me and relieves anxiety and stress associated with the hustle of business. If your business has you feeling anxious – meditation can help!

I’d like for you to practice this exercise. Carve out some time for this. Give yourself at least 10 to 15 minutes a day to meditate on you and your business then ask yourself a few questions.

Here are a few questions you can start with to help you get those creative juices flowing.  When asking yourself these questions be brutally honest with yourself and don’t justify poor performance or make excuses.

  • What don’t I do well? Or what am I doing wrong?
  • In what area can I most improve my rental business?
  • What complaints or feedback have I received from guests?
  • Where do errors and mistakes happen in my process?
  • Are there any missed opportunities where I can improve my rental income?
  • Do you always respond to inquiries, concerns or questions quickly? If not, how can I improve that?
  • What do my customers like about what I do?
  • What are the biggest challenges my business is facing?
  • What don’t my customers enjoy?

Now ask yourself, is there a potential solution to that problem?

Would implementing a system or protocol prevent that from happening or improve the desired problem or area?

This is a great problem-solving technique. Whenever you have an issue or feel overwhelmed, practice this step. It will help you!

I’m sharing the next steps to set up your business processes – make sure you stay tuned.

This post should help you get your thoughts together so we can move to the next steps of starting or “restarting” your vacation rental business.

We wish you the best of success in 2021!
