I’ve heard that my website hosting can affect my SEO. I hadn’t heard this before and I wasn’t sure if it was a sales pitch or if hosting does really harm/help SEO?

hey Katlyn – In my professional opinion and experience, it does not. However, if you enlist the services of a shared hosting platform with something like GoDaddy, it could likely slow your page load time down, which is a search engine ranking factor. Ultimately, if its too slow for most users, its too slow for Google or Bing.

Shared hosting, assuming the speed is acceptable, does NOT directly influence your SEO efforts. There are so many more important factors than what website hosting package you use, such as:
    Unique, sharable, relevant content
Good internal linking from one page in your site to another in your site
External links that are trustworthy and authoritative linking to your site
    and Local Search Engine Optimization
